Heavy bleeding – Start of the menopause

Question :-I am 54 years old. I have had regular period up until this last one. 43 days passed and I thought maybe my periods had stopped. But I started to bleed and have not stopped for 12 days. Could it be the start of my menopause? I am more worried about the amount of blood I am losing and my periods have been very heavy. Is it quite normal for this to happen? Should I wait a little longer hoping it will stop or should I go see my doctor?

Reply:-Yes this may be the start of the menopause

If the bleeding is heavy and has not stopped seek medical advice. The start of irregular periods, heavier bleeding, longer duration, change in mood, hot sweats are symptoms of the menopause.

Ensure your diet is high in iron.

Keeping a diary of you symptoms & timing helps, you wont remember everything !
