Breast Awareness - you should :-

  • know what is normal for you
  • know what changes to look and feel for
  • check every month, by hand and in the mirror
  • seek medical advice without delay
  • have routine breast screening, at 50 and over

What breast changes occur during the menopause

When hormonal change is taking place, the reduction of oestrogen stimulation on all tissues in the body including the breasts, can change the fullness and reduce breast tissue increasing fat cells, resulting in breast tenderness.

Changes to be aware of

  • Size - one larger than the other
  • Nipple - inverted. puckered, shape and position. Change or discharge
  • Skin tissue - puckered or dimpling
  • Armpits - lumps or swelling
  • Lumps or tissue that feels different

If you note any change, seek medical advice, most breast changes prove to be (benign) non-cancerous. Early detection increases the chances of a better outcome.

A healthy diet and exercise are recommended, reducing alcohol and smoking can result in optimum health..
