Avocado
The avocado pear is a New World fruit native to Mexico, but now popular with fruit growers in California, South Africa and Australia,
it is now available world wide.
A stoned creamy textured fruit with a pleasant flavour is a available in 4 varieties:
- The Hass, has a small purple knobbly skin and a pale green to yellow flesh.
- The E Hinger and Fuerte are pear shaped with a smooth green skin, and golden yellow flesh.
- The Nabel is a smaller rounder fruit.

Avocados contain no cholesterol, and our an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, with unusually high protein, fat and carbohydrate
levels.
With Vitamin C to boost the immune system, Vitamin B thiamin and riboflavin needed to boost metabolic rate, its vitamin E acts as an antioxidant, with the potassium aiding circulation.
The avocado is an excellent fuel and energy booster which will help maintain a good body balance.
A ripe avocado should have a clean unblemished skin, it should give when squeezed. The avocado is usually eaten raw, but may be baked or grilled.
Once cut sprinkle the avocado with lemon juice to stop discoloration.
