I am 53 and going through menopuase. I have the normal symptoms such as hot flashes, headaches and night sweats. However, I am having smpytoms of face tingling I call shortness of breath. I have gone to a neurogolist for the face tingling and he found nothing wrong. He did blood work and MRI of the brain and everything was normal. I have gone to a lung specialist about the shortness of breath and everyting is normal. She did a chest xray and everything is fine. The shortness of breath is best described as not being able to take a very very deep breath. I am currently on 1.0 mg of Estradiol/Norethindrone Acetate Tablets. I have bee taking them for 7weeks. The face tingling is better but not gone away. The shortness of breath is still there. I read another blog where a lady experience the same shortness of breath feeling as myself. She was put on fluoxetine 10mg once per day and within 2 days was feeling normal again. I'm thinking about asking my doctor to switch me to fluoxetine but not sure. This has been going on since August 2011. I need to feel better and not sure what to do.

I started with hot sweats in 2005. My periods started becoming less frequent in 2008 although the flow was normal, the hot sweats became worse and I started having night sweats. I started taking Boots St John's Wort and Black Cohosh one a day tablets which have been a Godsend.
I had a period in November 2009, then March 2010, then August 2010. After this my hot/night sweats disappeared and I thought that I was through the menopause although I continued with the tablets.
In August I had a couple of days of very light flow but since then my hot flushes and night sweats have come back with a vengence, far, far worse than they have been previously. I am not sleeping and consequently neither is my husband and I am screaming at him and the dogs. To make matters worse Boots have stopped doing the tablets and replaced them with a Black Cohosh tablet. Although I can buy St John's Wort to take alongside it does not seem to be as effective. Clearly there is something in the processing, the coating or the other ingredients that makes a difference for me.
The sudden resurgence of far worse symptoms is making me wonder how long this is going to go on. If it were a matter of months I could count the days to the light at the end of the tunnel however if it is going to be years I may have to tale HRT (which I really don't want to do) for the sake of my sanity and my husband's.

Menopause, Pregnancy & Birth Control.

Leaving the Forces, stress now reducing, kids moving on, wife & I getting to know each again incl. lots more intimate moments which she looks forward to more than me I suspect!!!. :) [Due to Forces life I have been rather distant I admit, but am working hard at being an attentive husband again].

Anyway, she is of course starting menopause. Neither of us likes condoms. I don't want to put her through surgical or more pills or anything at all as she is in remission.

I maybe a Serviceman but I don't like the idea of the snip - tho' my wife does!!!

Is it OK to continue to use withdrawal (and morning-after-pill in case of accidents) and to resume ejaculating inside her only once she is post-menopausal without still relying on withdrawal and morning-after-pill?

I suspect that she misses feeling me "finish" inside her so am resigned to the fact that the "snip" may have to be the way forward: we do not want a pregnancy.

Thank you for your advice.

Can't find any info ANYWHERE on internet about what to do if menopause won't start. GP has not a clue so don't advise seeing them. At nearly 56 I am still not even peri menopause and still having normal periods every month. NO, there is no genetic link. I know that there are both benefits and risks with very late onset menopause. I am gettingso fed up of still getting periods, with no sign of the menopause whatsoever.

I'm 42 (tomorrow) my Mum was in her late 30's when she went on the change. For the pats 12 months my period have changed lasting a week and been very heavy. I'm having hot flushes and sweating. I went for a hormone check with my GP who said my hormone levels didn't indicate I was going through the menopause. I am sure I've read something in a magazine that said a blood test is not an accurante indicator of this. Does anyone else have any info on this?

Thanks :)
